15 Minute Hypnosis -
Whatever Happened To
The 55 Minute Therapy Hour?!
by Dr Silvia Hartmann
I have produced a number of hypnotic inductions which are around the
15 minute mark - and people get very confused by this and say, "If it
isn't an hour long, how can be any good?!"
Well, the fact is that healing doesn't take any time at all - either
it works, or it doesn't, and by going on for longer, and longer, in the
hope that "something" will happen, really nothing is achieved.
Also, with long hypnotic inductions and drawn out meditations, there
is always the risk of the person simply falling asleep and not gaining
the maximum benefit from the processes. In terms of getting value for
money out of your hypnosis CD or meditation mp3, this is a shocking
waste; but much worse is the wasted opportunity to have learned, healed,
changed, and grown which could have been, but wasn't.
But the key reason for creating 15 minute experiences is simply the
fact that people don't have the time these days for long, drawn out
sessions that need a lot of preparation, getting undressed, lying down,
turning off the phones and putting your life on hold.
The 15 minute meditations can be fitted in QUICKLY, and right there
and then when they are needed - before a business meeting, before a
date, during the lunch break, before the favourite TV program starts,
before the kids come back from school, after a hard day at work, in
between client sessions - you can FIT these programs into your life, and
do them more often, more regularly, and so you gain much, much more from
these shorter programs than just saving valuable time.
A lot of people who buy hypnosis and meditation products only put
them on before they go to bed, because that's the only time they have
for such things, and of course, they expect to go to sleep anyway at
some point.
This is terrible news because a person at the end of the day is
exhausted, "brain dead", and can't make the mental movements required to
unlock the real power of hypnosis and meditation, which actually demands
much more than just lying there "like a limp noodle", as Lazaris used to
call it.
- Hypnosis and meditation, even guided meditation, is a TWO WAY
COMMUNCIATION PROCESS.
If your hypnotist tells you that you're walking down a garden path,
and you're way too tired and exhausted and half asleep to make the
effort required to STEP INTO THAT AND MAKE IT BRILLIANTLY REAL, in
essence you are wasting your time and you are NOT gaining what you could
from the product and service that is being offered here.
- Someone who is good at hypnosis and meditation is ACTIVE, and
actively RESPONSIVE to the suggestions, ideas, tapestries,
mindscapes and most of all, the MOVEMENTS that are being prescribed
by the hypnotist.
And that of course is much easier during the day, when you are awake
and alert, and it gets better and better with PRACTICE. Once you have
done a particular hypnotic journey five or six times, you know what to
expect, what is expected OF YOU, and you can respond quicker. The
experiences become richer, deeper, and the results much more powerful
and immediate, as you get better at it.
For the time investment of one of the long inductions, you get 4 x
the practice with the shorter ones; and you have many more opportunities
to "fit a quick session" into your daily life, easily, at that.
Another factor that comes into this is that people these days are far
more mentally active and quicker in mind than they used to be when
meditation was invented, a few thousand years ago, or hypnosis, a
hundred years ago or so. People get extremely bored and very rapidly so
"as the wave of relaxation moves into the third knuckle of their second
toe ..." and there's still all the rest of the skeleton to go before we
even start to get to the good stuff - oh my!
Boring someone into unconsciousness is clearly not very conducive
to good conscious/energy mind communication; and the frustration that
results from this also causes reversals and actively "switching off"
from the meditation process.
When that happens, absolutely nothing is learned any longer; and
whatever "goes into the unconscious mind" will happily stay there and
never influence what you do when you're awake at all!
The shorter inductions really keep the interest alive; they are
lively, lots of things are happening, and the consciousness gets to be
aligned with the energy mind so BOTH can be present, and "lucid
learning", healing and change has a chance to take place.
There is more. Focusing an intent in a 15 minute session is much
easier, both ways around, and the purpose as to what we are doing here,
what we are healing, what we are learning, stays easily resonant and
strong throughout.
These shorter, more concentrated and focused sessions during the day
also represent a significant opportunity for stress release, for
stopping stress build up in its tracks, and to help a person stay
focused on their own healing and personal development goals, as they're
going back to the rest of their day with a lovely clear mind, extra
energy, and essentially, A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW after the session
than they had before.
I therefore thought that the many, many benefits of the 15 minute
hypnosis sessions more than outweighed the initial shock reaction of
customers who were fully expecting the usual 55 minute therapy hour that
has been entrained as the norm since Freud first started to
psycho-analyse frustrated lady clients in Vienna at the dawn of the 20th
century!
So if you purchase one of the 15 minute sessions, make good use of
it. DRAIN every last cent in value from the experience by stepping right
into it, practicing it so you get good at the MOVEMENTS which are the
healing solutions to the problems - of course!
Don't be a limp noodle!
By all means, the standard sitting and lying down is fine; but you
can have other and much more interesting experiences by standing up,
swaying with the music, moving with the expressions, walking for real up
and down your corridor to help you "step into" that alternate reality
when the hypnotist says you're walking in a forest, or on a sea shore;
move your arms and make the movements when it says you're flying like an
eagle, and generally become much interactive and ACTIVE with these
inductions and meditations.
Make them into a full body experience.
Try them in the garden, outside, in a different room, even whilst
washing the dishes or raking the leaves off the lawn.
- Bring these hypnotic experiences, learnings, these MOVEMENTS
out of the so called "sacred circle of the 55 minute therapy hour"
and INTO your actual life.
You will find, like so many others already have, that the real
practical value you get from your hypnosis and meditation products
easily doubles, and triples, and more as time goes by and these
experience become ever better, as you are learning to interact from your
end, and getting the very best deal you possibly can in the process.
